LE CARE

Le CARÉ is an emergency day centre offering an informal and unconditional welcome to people facing material and/or emotional difficulties, often characterised by loneliness, exclusion, rejection and marginalisation.

As a place to live, the association encourages encounters and exchanges between individuals. The team, made up of trainees and volunteers, is permanently committed to interacting with flexibility, finesse and a deep sense of anticipation and adaptation.

1. The day to day

Direct action consists of serving hot meals and meeting basic needs such as showers, lockers, hairdressing services, as well as distributing clothing and food parcels. All of this takes place in a comforting environment, where the whole team works to support and direct people to other structures that can provide additional help.

2. Stewardship training

On the one hand, for many years, le CARÉ has been working with the Hospice général, offering places for people to return to work, mainly in its catering department. The people we take on are on social assistance (i.e. long-term unemployed) and often need to acquire recognised vocational training (AFP or CFC) in order to reintegrate permanently into the labour market.

On the other hand, the situation of homeless people in Geneva clearly reveals a lack of facilities for washing and drying their personal laundry, in the absence of accommodation or access to a laundry. Although CARÉ is working with CAPAS, Le Bateau and the Salvation Army on a laundry card project, it cannot meet all the demands.

3. Training objectives

In partnership with the OrTra Intendance Genève, CARÉ aims to become a place offering retraining courses for adults in the following areas:

The Attestation Fédérale de Formation Professionnelle (AFP) d’Employé en intendance: this training represents the first level of qualification in the Swiss vocational training system.
The Certificat Fédéral de Capacité (CFC) de Gestionnaire en intendance (Federal Certificate of Competence in Housekeeping Management): this is the second level in the housekeeping profession.
The aim of these courses is to help people undergoing retraining to get back to work. Adults will follow training programmes covering different areas of housekeeping:

– Reception, advice and customer service.
– Cleaning and fitting out premises and equipment.
– Carrying out work relating to the laundry circuit.
– Preparing and distributing meals.

For the AFP (vocational training certificate) in catering, adults will follow a specific pathway, condensed over a period of around 14 months, which combines theoretical and practical training for rapid and comprehensive acquisition of professional skills. The ultimate aim is to provide participants with the tools they need to successfully reintegrate into the labour market.
