Alter Start Food
Alter Start Food highlights the culinary skills and creations of migrant entrepreneurs operating as micro-entrepreneurs in French-speaking Switzerland. Established in 2020, this project is one of the components of the global Alter Start program, initiated by the IFPD Foundation in 2017 with the aim of encouraging the emergence of micro-enterprises founded by individuals from migrant backgrounds.

1. Alter Sart – Buvette-école
Adjacent to the restaurant in the Parc des Eaux Vives, the buvette-école is a management space and a professional integration opportunity for participants in the Alter Start initiative. This space, the first of its kind in terms of permanence, will offer participants the chance to showcase their skills and expand their network by marketing their products.
The aim of this program is to establish an innovative synergy between a sales area dedicated to Alter Start products and business training for project leaders.
2. Mission and Objectives
- Train Alter Start project leaders in business development through real-life situations.
- To sell Alter Start and Alter Start Food products to acquire new customers and increase the income of project leaders.
- Test this first case study for future developments.
- Promote and communicate Alter Start Food programs in a new context.
Beneficiaries of the program are identified in partnership with EVAM, Hospice général and various associations working with refugees and asylum seekers. They need to be self-employed (F, B, C permits) and have a good command of French (B1 level).
